Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns’ next commit after D’antre Robinson
Colin Simmons, EDGE
Undoubtedly, the top priority recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall is the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. The No. 1 ranked edge rusher recruit in the nation in the 2024 class has remained a Texas lean since a successful late-June official visit to Austin.
Texas has pushed all the right buttons in this recruitment this summer, leading to the Longhorns getting the pole position with Simmons over the LSU Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies.

Simmons teased a commitment date on social media on July 19. That, along with him seemingly speeding up his decision timeline after the dead period lifts on July 24, are signs that his recruitment could be in the closing stages late this summer.
It looks like Simmons is planning on taking a couple more visits before he announces his decision. Unofficial visits to LSU and Texas A&M will likely happen before Simmons shuts down his recruitment.
On3’s Billy Embody reported that LSU has more confidence with Simmons heading into his unofficial visit to Baton Rouge next week.
If Texas can hold off any late pushes from Texas A&M and LSU in this recruitment, the Longhorns should be the pick when Simmons announces his commitment. He is the must-get recruit for the Longhorns in the 2024 class, so a commitment from Simmons could open up the floodgates for Texas one more time heading into the fall.
Simmons hypothetically committing to Texas soon could be a big draw to other top defensive priority recruits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class, such as Black and five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley.
