The weekly grind of playing in the SEC or Big Ten has really started to show which teams can truly be considered the best of the best in the top P4 conferences for the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket predictions.

Post-Week 8 2024 College Football Playoff Predictions with a new No. 1 from the Big Ten

In Week 8, there were a couple of notable upsets that moved the 12-team College Football Playoff projections, including No. 1 Texas football falling short of the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs by double digits at home.

Week 8 also served as a time for a handful of P4 teams to be eliminated from Playoff contention for the 12-team bracket. In the Big Ten, the Michigan Wolverines and USC Trojans were removed from Playoff contention as each team was handed its third loss this season on Saturday afternoon.

In the SEC, there were some surprising results, even outside of the Georgia win over Texas. The No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers topped the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide in a rock fight in Knoxville, by a score of 24-17.

Here's a look at the updated 12-team College Football Playoff bracket predictions after another week of separation in the Big Ten and SEC in Week 8.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Alabama were the two teams that fell out of this week's Playoff projections. Notre Dame did defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets handily in ACC play, but it was overtaken by Tennessee after beating Alabama at home at Neyland Stadium yesterday.

Texas was the biggest faller this week after it was unseated from the top spot following head coach Steve Sarkisian's squad falling to Georgia by 15 points.

The two teams that re-entered the Playoff projections this week are the LSU Tigers and Tennessee. LSU had an impressive double-digit win at home at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge over the rival Arkansas Razorbacks, which had knocked off the Vols just a few weeks earlier in SEC play.

The ESPN Allstate College Football Playoff predictor has LSU and Tennessee both with at least a 40 percent chance of making the 12-team Playoff this postseason.

The three teams on the outside looking in are the Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame, and SMU Mustangs (in order from top to bottom).
