3 priority portal targets visiting Texas this weekend

The whirlwind of the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window has taken effect for Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian late this week. Texas's roster picture for the 2025 offseason next spring will start coming into a clearer focus for Sarkisian and staff over the next few weeks during this transfer cycle window.

Early-portal window primer for Texas football's upcoming transfer visitors

While the Longhorns are preparing for the 12-team College Football Playoff next weekend in Austin against the 12-seed Clemson Tigers in the first round, Texas has also been actively shopping the portal for immediate impact upgrades to this roster.

Among the handful of portal visitors the Longhorns have already hosted this week, one of them committed and already signed their paperwork to join Texas. Former Utah Utes grad transfer senior punter Jack Bouwmeester committed to Texas while he was on his portal visit to Austin today.

The line of visitors among priority Texas portal targets keeps going down the list this weekend. Here's a rundown of the visitors upcoming in the next few days for the Longhorns from the transfer portal.

Cole Brevard, DT (Purdue)

As we speak, Texas is hosting former Purdue Boilermakers senior grad transfer defensive tackle Cole Brevard on a visit on campus. Brevard entered the portal as a grad transfer on Dec. 3.

An All-Big Ten Honorable Mention defensive lineman for Purdue this season, Brevard brings the size (6-foot-3 and 330 pounds) and proven experience playing nose tackle the Longhorns are looking for.

Brevard visited the SMU Mustangs a few hours up I-35 in Dallas yesterday (Dec. 12) before making the trip to the Forty Acres today. He doesn't have any other trips set to see schools other than Texas and SMU.

Brad Spence, LB (Arkansas)

Another portal visitor the Longhorns started hosting today on campus is former Arkansas Razorbacks sophomore transfer linebacker Brad Spence.

Texas is looking to add more linebacker depth from the portal with proven experience playing in the P4.

Spence has played 23 games over the past two seasons at Arkansas, registering 70 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery.

Against Texas this season, Spence was productive registering seven combined tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, two quarterback pressures, and three defensive stops over 31 defensive snaps for Arkansas' defensive front.

Eric Singleton Jr., WR (Georgia Tech)*

The most highly-anticipated scheduled visit the Longhorns have over the coming days in the transfer portal is the speedy former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sophomore wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr.

The No. 1 transfer for this portal cycle, according to 247Sports, has already visited the Ole Miss Rebels, Georgia Bulldogs, and Auburn Tigers this week.

Singleton is scheduled to visit Texas and the Miami Hurricanes (among a handful of other potential visits to other P4 schools) early next week. He starts his Texas visit on Monday (Dec. 16).
