Texas Women's Basketball hosted the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Moody Center tonight. Both teams were ranked going into tonight's SEC Conference game. It felt like it was going to be a close game, given how both teams have played this season.
However, Madison Booker and the Longhorns made a statement with an 84-40 win over the Tide tonight. The Longhorns would advance to 3-0 in conference play. What a statement Vic Schaefer and his team sent to the other SEC schools tonight by Vic Schaefer and his team.
After a couple of bad shooting nights for Booker, she finished with 21 points tonight against the Tide. That is the Booker that is going to be a pain in the butt for other SEC teams down the road. I was proud of how the team played against a good Alabama basketball team tonight. This win should help them with their seeding for March Madness in March. Let's look at the three takeaways for the Longhorns after their win against the Crimson Tide.
Takeaways from Texas women's basketball's convincing win vs. Alabama: 3. Dominated the boards
The Longhorns out-rebounded the Tide 45-31 tonight. I think the rebounding led to the Longhorns winning by 44 points tonight. Anytime you can control the boards, you'll likely win the game. The Longhorns have to continue that against South Carolina on Sunday. The Longhorns have a good chance of beating them if they control the boards against the Gamecocks. Great job on the boards tonight for the Longhorns against a well-coached Crimson Tide program.
2. Turnovers
The Crimson Tide turned the ball over 20 times, leading to the Longhorns' significant margin of victory. The Longhorns will need another one of those games against a well-coached Gamecocks team on Sunday. It will be a battle to determine which team has fewer turnovers.
Whoever doesn't turn the ball over the least amount of times will win the game. With how Schaefer coaches his team, I wouldn't be surprised if the Longhorns have a shot at beating the Gamecocks.
1. Booker making baskets tonight
Booker has not had the best start to the conference games this year. She has made some awful decisions on which shots to take against Oklahoma and a bit of the Arkansas game. She did well against the Crimson Tide tonight, and that was why they had such a good win tonight.
Her 21 points helped the Longhorns separate themselves from the Tide in the first quarter. Booker needs another good performance if the Longhorns want a shot at taking down the #2 Gamecocks on Sunday.
