Texas Women's Basketball took on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the Moody Center this afternoon. The game felt a bit weird earlier today because Sophomore Madison Booker wasn't the MVP of today's game.

Freshmen Jordan Lee and Justice Carlton shined bright on the court for the Longhorns. Both players combined for 33 points in the 103-57 win over the Jackrabbits. Both ladies were impressive and displayed what they could bring during conference play.

The Longhorns also put on another defensive showcase this afternoon. When you force 21 turnovers and rebound the ball 45 times, that will win you basketball games any day of the week. The Longhorns are getting hot at the right time, with their first SEC Conference game beginning in January.

If I have the Longhorns on my schedule in January, I would start scouting them. Here are the three takeaways from their win against the Jackrabbits this afternoon.

Takeaways from Texas women's basketball's win over South Dakota State 3. Another huge rebounding performance

The Longhorns love to dominate the boards in the last couple of games. This afternoon, the Longhorns had 45 rebounds.

That's over 100 rebounds in the previous two games against Division 1 opponents. I don't know if Schaefer had them practice rebounding the ball during practice after the narrow win against Richmond, but I like what I'm seeing. Rebounds will determine if the Longhorns are a force in the SEC or will be in the middle of the pack.

2. Winning the turnover battle

The Longhorns also won the turnover battle today. Forcing 21 turnovers will help you win football games as well. Vic Schaefer is known for his intense defense, and the ladies are buying into it. Havin Schaefer, as the head coach, will benefit the Longhorns as they begin their first season in the SEC. Given all the talent in this conference, women's basketball in the SEC will be challenging. Schaefer's defense is a key advantage the Longhorns have for Conference play.

1. Freshman duo

Lee and Carlton might get some playing time during SEC Conference games. Both girls were impressive in this afternoon's win against the Jackrabbits. I'm interested to see how Schaefer will integrate them into the rotation when they take on teams like LSU and South Carolina.

Carlton was the leading scorer this afternoon with 19 points, and Lee finished with 14. These two ladies are the future of the program. The Longhorns are back in action on the 29th against UT Rio Grande Valley at the Moody Center.
