This week, the Texas Longhorns continued to climb the recruiting rankings, earning commitment after commitment after commitment and building yet another incredible class of blue-chip prospects.
Earlier today, the Texas recruiting class of 2027 was joined by four-star safety Junior Tu'upo, one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the recruiting cycle.

"I'm going to work. Always. My coaches know it. My teammates know it. I'm not ducking any smoke.I'm there to help us win a championship," Tu'upo said after committing live on the Rivals YouTube channel.
4-star DB Junior Tu'upo becomes the 19th commitment for Texas
Tu'upo, who was reportedly choosing between the Horns, the Indiana Hoosiers, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Auburn Tigers, and the Oregon Ducks, opted to commit to Texas, leaving the other powerhouse programs hanging.
Despite being an Alabama native and despite the Hoosiers being the defending National Champions, Tu'upo saw the biggest and brightest future on the 40 Acres, with his recent official visit to Austin seeming to seal the deal for head coach Steve Sarkisian.
"As far as Texas, I love the coaches over there," Tu'upo recently said. "I especially love coach [Blake Gideon]. I feel like he's a young coach, has a lot of energy. Same with Sarkisian and [Will] Muschamp. I love Texas."
Junior Tu'upo sees brighter future away from home-state Alabama
Throughout his recruiting process, he spent the most time with the Tigers and the Crimson Tide, taking five total visits to Alabama and two to Auburn. However, the singular official visit was clearly enough to sway Tu'upo in the Horns' direction.
"It was just a lot of energy," Tu'upo said about his OV to Texas. "We went out with players, got around players, got around the recruits. They showed a lot of love."
Of course, beyond being able to boast about the fact that you play for the University of Texas Longhorns, learning that you're around like-minded and equally elite athletes has become a huge draw for current high school prospects.
Well before his decision was finalized and made public, Texas was projected as the frontrunner to earn Tu'upo's commitment. According to Rivals and On3, the Longhorns held a whopping 96 percent chance to land the blue-chip safety, even over his home-state teams.
Unsurprisingly, as the No. 22 safety in his recruiting cycle and No. 13 prospect out of the state of Alabama, he received a lot of attention from his home-state programs, and didn't necessarily shy away from showing love to them, especially Auburn.
However, what Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and Auburn's Alex Golesh have to offer clearly didn't stack up to what Tu'upo can access by joining the Longhorns.
Not to mention the fact that quite a few elite defensive backs have passed through the halls of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium over the years, including cornerback Malik Muhammad and safety Michael Taaffe, who were both selected during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Tu'upo hasn't been the only blue-chip defensive back to commit to the Horns out of the class of 2027, joining fellow four-star safety Greedy James and five-star cornerback John Meredith III.
