When John Meredith III committed to the Texas Longhorns over the Texas A&M Aggies and the Alabama Crimson Tide, the entire country took notice.
Not only is Meredith a five-star cornerback in the class of 2027, but he is the No. 2 overall prospect in his recruiting cycle and was one of the most highly coveted prospects in the group. Additionally, when he committed to the Horns, it propelled Texas's recruiting class from No. 11 to No. 4 in the national rankings.
After Meredith announced his commitment, the reactions flooded in, with analysts saying it was one of the biggest commitments of Sarkisian's tenure with the Longhorns, as well as current players and Texas commits reveling in the excitement.
Current Texas freshman defensive back Samari Matthews took to X to share his celebration of the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2027 committing to his team, writing, "Yessir" along with the Horns emoji following his future teammate's announcement.

Four-star edge rusher and Texas commit Cameron Hall shared a similar sentiment with a few extra letters, writing "Yessirrrr!!!" on X, with a fire emoji.
Texas beat reporter Cory Mose wrote, "Huge news for Texas! From Barron, to Muhammad, Mascoe coming in, Littleton & Phillips showing potential stardom, and now Meredith coming along... The CB room at Texas [is] starting to get back to those DBU days."
Simply put, the successful recruitment of Meredith was huge for the Longhorns and was just the second five-star prospect that Sarkisian has managed to land from the class of 2027. The other one? Well, it's none other than five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, and we all know what that tale entails.
John Meredith's commitment to Horns pours gas on bonfire for Texas recruiting
Before Meredith even announced his commitment date, the Longhorns were trending toward a top-10 recruiting class for a fourth straight year, including the No. 1 recruiting class of 2025. His commitment solidified the Horns in the top five, a trend that Sarkisian has been able to consistently duplicate over the last three years.
Meredith was the 16th commitment in Texas's class, joining Royal, Hall, and more than a dozen other prospects ready to pack their bags for the 40 Acres.
Following Meredith's commitment, it should come as no surprise to Texas fans (or fans of any other team, for that matter) if more recruits start leaning in the direction of Sarkisian and the Longhorns as well.

If Sarkisian continues his hot streak on the recruiting trail, he could see his class, which also ranks fourth in the SEC standings, continue to climb the board on both the national and conference stage. As of now, the Horns only trail the Texas A&M Aggies (23 commits), Oklahoma Sooners (25), and Florida Gators (24) in the recruiting rankings.
Currently, Texas is in the mix for some of the top remaining prospects in the class who have yet to commit, including four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, four-star cornerback Brandon Sherrard, four-star safety Junior Tu'upo, and more.
