For the Texas Longhorns, every week is OU hate week, but that is especially true during the seven days that lead up to the Red River Rivalry, where they actually clash with the Oklahoma Sooners.

It has taken no time for four-star running back Micah Rhodes to pick up on how the rivalry works, and it came with the best recruiting move of all time.

Rhodes, a top-10 running back in the class of 2028 and a Texas native, initially committed to OU over Texas. Today, just over 48 hours before kickoff at Red River, he committed to the Horns.

"Continue the legacy, Hook'Em," Rhodes said when he committed, rubbing salt in the wound that he had stepped back from the Sooners just six months and was committing to their biggest rivals only days before the game itself.

Immediately, fans on both sides of the aisle (or the 50-yard-line) shared their reactions. While Oklahoma's fanbase was sharing their infuriation at the time he chose to announce his commitment, Longhorn Nation was as jubilant as ever.

The cherry on top? He committed on Thursday morning, just after midnight, making the announcement on his 17th birthday, adding to the specialness of the announcement.

Rhodes was a legacy recruit, with his grandfather, Bobby Rhodes, playing linebacker for the Longhorns in the 1980s. So, his initial commitment to OU stung, but it also made his new commitment that much sweeter.

Micah Rhodes' commitment boslters Horns' offensive prowess in 2028

Rhodes is already a two-time All-American, with a year and a half of his high school career still over the horizon. Through the first four games of his time on Klein High School's varsity squad, he has already earned 587 rushing yards for seven touchdowns, amassing that stat line in just four games.

In other words, he is a monster in the backfield, and his commitment helped to solidify the future of Texas's offense.

So far, the Longhorns have received just two commitments from the class of 2028, with Rhodes joining four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence. While it's a small sample size, it is becoming rapidly clear that Texas is putting an emphasis on offensive talent in the near future.

Unfortunately, the Sooners have already claimed four commitments from the recruiting cycle, but they all have a little less shine than Rhodes and Lawrence.

For example, while Lawrence is the No. 8 QB in the class of 2028, Oklahoma quarterback commit Trey Tagliaferri only ranks 15th in the cycle. And this is an ongoing trend, with the Horns outpacing OU in the 2027 class, with Texas landing the No. 2 class and the Sooners trailing at No. 3 in the national rankings.

Of course, Texas's class of 2027 features quite a few blue-chip offensive prospects, including five-star wideout Easton Royal, five-star interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara, and five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis.
