In the latest chapter of the ever-growing novel between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas Tech Red Raiders (or better yet, Steve Sarkisian and Joey McGuire), five-star cornerback John Meredith III chimed in to share his two cents on the matter.
Meredith is committed to the Horns and is part of Texas's No. 5 recruiting class of 2027, which ranks four spots ahead of the Red Radiers' group. So, he might have a slight bias toward the Longhorns. However, he made a confident statement about what would happen if the two teams did end up playing.
"I would like Texas to play Texas Tech so people can know what’s the real difference between them," Meredith told Rivals' Adam Gorney.

Simply put, Meredith has complete faith that the Horns would dominate the Red Raiders, and he is still a year removed from officially joining the Texas roster.
Even recruits know the Horns would beat the Red Raiders
Of course, Meredith has yet to play a down of college football. Not to mention the fact that the Longhorns and Red Raiders have not shared a field since 2023. Texas walked away with a resounding 57-7 victory, and a lot has changed since then.
However, Meredith is undoubtedly onto something, and he is undeniably backing his future head coach, who "started" this whole saga by simply saying there was another team in the state that the Horns could beat with their second- or third-string players.
McGuire, the head coach of Texas Tech, has been adamant that his team would be ready to play the game today if the Horns agreed to change their schedule to accommodate the Red Raiders, even taking the topic to the Big 12 Media Days this week.
Sarkisian has remained relatively silent on the matter, as have the current Texas players, letting their work and upcoming season speak for themselves.

Yet, they clearly have not told their recruits to shy away from the matter, and they certainly are not denying the belief that the Longhorns could clobber the Red Raiders if they shared a field this season.
Throughout their lengthy history, the Horns have dominated the in-state "rivalry," winning 54 of the pair's 72 meetings.
Since Sarkisian took over on the 40 Acres in 2021, Texas has gone 2-1 against Texas Tech, outscoring the Red Raiders by a combined 161-79, more than doubling Tech's point total. McGuire, who took over in Lubbock in 2022, has gone 1-1 against Texas.

There is no denying that after all of this drama and "back-and-forth," the matchup would garner a lot of attention. However, there is zero (and I mean, 0) reason for Texas to change its schedule to play the Red Raiders.
Meanwhile, Texas Tech is on its knees, praying for a chance to play an SEC team like the Longhorns.
