Cam Coleman's highlight-worthy catch has Horns' recruiting win over Alabama feeling even sweeter

This offseason, the buzz around the 40 Acres has, in large part, surrounded the Texas Longhorns' new wide receiver, Cam Coleman.

Coming to Austin from the Auburn Tigers, Coleman was always expected to make an immediate impact on the Horns' offense as one of the highest-rated transfer prospects in the portal.

This fall camp, however, a highlight-reel-worthy catch by Coleman that even had the team shouting out in celebration just made Texas's recruiting victory to bring him into the fold even better.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian went head to head with the Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer for Coleman's commitment this spring, and when the Longhorns won out, it left the Tide ruing the fact that it couldn't keep up on the recruiting trail.

Now, the gravity-defying, one-handed snag by the Longhorns' wideout is only rubbing salt in the Coleman-shaped wound on Alabama's depth chart.

Cam Coleman is setting the pace for Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V

Coleman isn't the only headline-worthy wide receiver on Texas's roster this season, joining returning wideouts Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V. However, the former Tiger has quickly solidified himself as quarterback Arch Manning's apparent go-to guy downfield.

Between deep balls, gravity-defying catches, and unbelievable vertical speed, Coleman has looked like a picture-perfect wide receiver this fall, setting the tone and the standard for Wingo and Mosley to meet.

Yet, you can't completely dismiss Manning's pre-existing connections with the other two (likely) starting receivers.

Already this fall camp, Manning has been seen connecting downfield with Wingo, and locking in for numerous passes to Mosley a little closer to the line of scrimmage.

Of course, Mosley also transferred to Texas, joining the Longhorns ahead of the 2025 season after starting his collegiate career with the Stanford Cardinal. Last year, he earned 408 yards on just 28 receptions (14.6 yards per catch) for three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Wingo joined the Horns as a true freshman in 2024, but his true breakout season came in 2025, earning the most receiving yards and receiving touchdowns out of any Texas receiver. Last season, he amassed 834 yards and seven touchdowns through the air. This year, expect even more from the veteran Longhorn.

Over two seasons at Auburn, Coleman earned 1,306 receiving yards for 13 touchdowns while having to play for two head coaches, with seven different quarterbacks, and within a program that undeniably misused his talents.

Now, with Sarkisian calling the shots and Manning slinging the ball, Coleman's numbers are expected to skyrocket, and the latest clip from Texas's fall camp is just one of the first flashes of brilliance.
