Steve Sarkisian and his Texas Longhorns staff continue to put in the work on the recruiting trails. Although it is not official, the latest recruiting intel suggests five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara will be committing to the Horns here soon. On Monday morning, three Rivals recruiting experts all predicted Ismael Camara will likely be a part of the Longhorns' recruiting class for 2027.
Steve Wiltfong was the first to put his name and reputation on the line. He has Camara going to Texas with a 60-percent confidence rate. Keep in mind that he hits on about 92 percent of his predictions. Wiltfong was soon joined by Sam Spiegelman at 60 percent as well. This Rivals insider hits on 85 percent of his predictions. Eric Nahlin was more confident than both of them at a bullish 80 percent.
The Gilmer, Texas native has 37 offers, but Camara is looking at playing for one of these six schools.
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- LSU Tigers
- Oregon Ducks
- SMU Mustangs
- Texas Longhorns
- Texas A&M Aggies
Camara has regularly made visits to the 40 Acres throughout his recruitment. While programs such as Oregon and SMU have been trying their best to get him to come to their respective schools, Texas has long felt like the leader for him. SMU and Texas A&M may be in-state as well, but the Longhorns seem to have all the positive momentum working in their favor. Texas feels like an inevitability for him.
Landing a player of Camara's caliber can be what helps Texas overtake Georgia in the SEC hierarchy.
Texas Longhorns are on the verge of landing 5-star OL Ismael Camara
According to the 247Sports Composite, Camara is the No. 3 player from Texas, the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country, and the No. 19 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. On3/Rivals has him projected to be more of an interior offensive lineman. However, his 6-foot-6, 340-pound frame could conceivably kick out to either tackle spot once he gets his feet wet. The SEC can be so unforgiving.
When looking at who all is still technically in the mix to land Camara, it says as much about Texas landing him as it does who the Longhorns are beating out. Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M all compete in the SEC. SMU is in-state over in the ACC. As far as Oregon is concerned, the Ducks are a national recruiting power every bit capable of landing any blue-chip prospect out of every major metroplex.
Should Camara do what the three recruiting for Rivals expect him to by committing to Texas, this could help the Longhorns get one step closer to overcoming its Georgia problem. Texas is among the best programs in its new league, but it has yet to beat the perennial power in-conference since coming over. Georgia can get got in the trenches, particularly along the defensive line of scrimmage.

Overall, a player from Texas and of Camara's caliber should be going to play for the Horns. Texas A&M has shown that it can recruit with anyone, but the on-field product can be too inconsistent at times vs. top-flight competition. Sarkisian and his staff have work to do, especially in crunch time vs. high-end opponents. Eventually, Texas will do enough to win the SEC, maybe with Camara coming aboard.
For now, it would be a total shock to the system for Camara to end up committing to any other team.
