It took just one season with the Texas Longhorns for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell to prove his worth as a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Since then, his professional career has been far from... noteworthy.
Over the last three seasons, Mitchell has played in 33 games, but has only earned 765 receiving yards and an even more minimal two touchdowns.
Last year, he joined the New York Jets after starting his career with the Indianapolis Colts, and it was the best season his career has seen so far. And now, just one year later, he truly seems to have found his footing (and his people) with the Jets.
In a recent practice clip posted by the New York social media team, Mitchell went up for an incredible toe-tapping touchdown catch from quarterback Geno Smith. Then, the arguably better part of the video, he celebrated with about a dozen of his teammates.

Adonai Mitchel is fitting in just fine with the New York Jets
Last season, Mitchell earned a career-high 453 receiving yards between the regular season and preseason, scoring his first two professional touchdowns since being drafted.
The increase in production reflected, almost perfectly, how his college career played out, starting with the Georgia Bulldogs before transferring to Texas ahead of the 2023 season.

While his numbers at Georgia weren't exactly bad, they were far from noteworthy, but almost as soon as he set foot on the 40 Acres, he turned into the star he always had the potential to be. During his one season with the Horns, he earned a career-high 845 receiving yards for 11 touchdowns.
While at Georgia, he only earned 560 total yards over two seasons, finding the end zone just seven times.
That third year of college football, once he found the right team to play for, made Mitchell's football career take off.
Heading into his second season with the Jets, he is projected to be the WR2 for New York behind star wideout Garrett Wilson. His third year in the NFL made his name a household one in the league, and it is looking more and more like Year 4 will only further that.
"He seems to be moving past whatever was holding him back in 1½ seasons with the Colts," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported. "Mitchell has to prove it during the regular season, but he's gaining chemistry with Smith and is in a contract year, adding urgency to his performance."
Simply put, it looks like the rest of the nation is about to see Mitchell do exactly what the Longhorns know he is capable of.
