For a long time, the Texas Longhorns were the frontrunners to land a commitment from three-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower.

Now, the young wideout has officially committed to the Horns, choosing Texas over a slew of other powerhouse programs, including the Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, and more.

When Thrower committed to the Longhorns, his reason was music to the ears of his future college coaches and Texas fans across the board.

"Different mindset, different results," Thrower said about the Horns.

3-star WR Briceson Thrower commits to Texas Longhorns

A native Texan, the three-star wideout had kept the Big 3 in-state programs on his list, but officially chose to suit up in the burnt orange in white.

At the end of the day, Thrower had reportedly narrowed his list to just Texas and the Illinois Fighting Illini, but he had yet to officially cross off the Aggies, Buckeyes, or the Texas Tech Red Raiders before announcing his decision on Saturday evening.

Thrower was widely considered one of the more underrated prospects in the portal, ranking 58th in the receiving group and as the No. 53 recruit out of Texas. Despite his top-100 rankings in the state and at the position, he was rated as the No. 413 overall prospect in the class of 2027.

However, don't let that high ranking deter you. There was a reason he was recruited so heavily by some of the top teams in the country.

During his junior season of high school varsity football, he earned a whopping 529 receiving yards for five touchdowns in just 10 games. Simply put, Thrower is an elite athlete, even if the rankings don't necessarily reflect that fact.

Also notably, Thrower already stands at 6-foot-3, with another year of high school ahead of him, giving him extremely good odds to tack on another inch or two, as well as packing on a few pounds, before he ever plays for the Longhorns.

Thrower was the 12th commit in Texas's class of 2027, which ranks 15th in the national standings and sixth in the SEC, and joined a group of elite wide receivers and tight ends already committed to the Horns.

Five-star wideout Easton Royal is Sarkisian's highest-rated commit in the group, followed closely by four-star tight end Brock Williams as well as three-star right end JT Geraci.

Even before his commitment, Thrower was scheduled to take his official visit to the Longhorns two weeks later, over the weekend of June 19, just one week after taking an official visit to the Fighting Illini.

While Thrower hasn't shared if he will cancel or keep his trip to Illinois, the Horns should be undeniably excited to have him in Austin later this month.
