Just like that, the Texas Longhorns are one of just two teams truly in the race to land three-star wide receiver Briceson Thrower, alongside the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Yesterday, it looked like there were three teams still in the hunt, with the Texas A&M Aggies scheduled to host Thrower on an official visit this weekend.

Today, it was announced that Thrower had canceled the visit and would only take trips to see the Horns and the Illini instead. Texas's rivals were suddenly out of contention, and the Horns were that much closer to landing the three-star prospect.

Briceson Thrower down to the Longhorns and Fighting Illini

Thrower is scheduled to visit both Texas and Illinois next month, and all signs are pointing to the young wideout choosing his home-state Longhorns over the Fighting Illini.

However, both trips are scheduled for after his set decision day, which is set for June 6, just a week after the Aggies had been crossed off his list.

Now, don't get out over your skis quite yet. Bret Bielema has turned Illinois back into a serious contender both on the field and on the recruiting trail. However, competing with a brand name like the one that the Longhorns can boast is an impossible task for almost anyone.

According to On3, Texas has a 97 percent chance at landing Thrower's commitment, followed by Illinois with a whopping 1 percent. In other words, the odds are looking pretty good for Steve Sarkisian and the Horns.

So far, Sark has landed 11 commitments from the class of 2027, highlighted by five-star wide receiver Easton Royal and four-star tight end Brock Williams, who would line up alongside Thrower if he committed to Texas.

The Longhorns' class always includes four-star edge rushers Cameron Hall and Derwin Fields, four-star running back Noah Roberts, and six three-star prospects. So far, the group ranks 13th in the national standings and fifth in the SEC.
