Longhorns' pride at top-25 class of 2027 knocked down a peg by rivals' success

Despite the Texas Longhorns bringing in another top-25 recruiting class, the shine of their upcoming group of recruits has a slight blemish.

The latest class of 2027 team recruit rankings and, per usual, the Texas Longhorns comfortably claimed a spot in the top 25, earning the No. 16 spot in the nation.

That's yet another dominant group of recruits for the Horns and head coach Steve Sarkisian. However, the impressive effort has a blemish on it now, with the teams that took the top spots in the ranking.

None other than the Texas A&M Aggies and the Oklahoma Sooners claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in 247Sports' latest rankings.

The Longhorns' biggest rivals have the two best groups of recruits in the country, followed by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the USC Trojans, two more teams that Texas doesn't exactly have the nicest feelings for.

The Florida Gators and Kentucky Wildcats are the only other teams in the SEC whose recruiting classes are ranked higher than the Horns'.

This by no means is to say that Texas shouldn't be proud of the class that is about to join the 40 Acres; the Longhorns' group of 2027 recruits is absolutely impressive, and includes top prospects like five-star wide receiver Easton Royal.

Alongside Royal are a slew of 10 other blue-chip prospects who have committed to Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

Texas class of 2027 commitments

  • Easton Royal, five-star wide receiver
  • Brock Williams, four-star tight end
  • Cameron Hall, four-star EDGE
  • Derwin Fields, four-star EDGE
  • Noah Roberts, four-star running back
  • Keyon Hemphill-Woods, three-star interior offensive lineman
  • Greedy James, three-star safety
  • Cade Haug, three-star linebacker
  • Ty Knutson, three-star quarterback
  • JT Geraci, three-star tight end
  • Jackson Cook, three-star interior offensive lineman

There is still a ton of time left until the class of 2027 concludes its recruitment process, and that means the Longhorns have a lot of time to add more blue-chip prospects to their group of commits.

The ranking of the Aggies and the Sooners' classes should do nothing other than motivate Sarkisian and his staff to hit the recruiting trail even harder.
