While no Longhorns were able to match Xavier Worthy's record-setting 40-yard dash (4.21 seconds) from the 2024 Combine, a few former Texas stars elevated their Draft stock at the most recent NFL Combine. One Longhorn in particular, wide receiver Matthew Golden, stood out above the rest.
For the second year in a row, a Texas wideout recorded the fastest 40-yard dash time at the Combine as Golden crossed the line in just 4.29 seconds. His speed caught everybody's attention.
However, while speed is helpful, it isn't everything that a receiver needs in order to succeed at the next level, yet people can't seem to keep Golden off their minds.
Throughout the 2024-25 season, Golden was a shining star for the Texas offense. He cleaned up his dropped passes and continuously showed off his elite body control as he blew past cornerbacks and safeties. Now, with his 40 time in his back pocket, the former Longhorn is quickly becoming the talk of the 2025 Draft class.

Matthew Golden college career stats
- 134 receptions
- 1,975 receiving yards
- 22 receiving touchdowns
- 28 kickoff returns
- 722 return yards
- 2 return touchdowns
Golden started his collegiate career with the Houston Cougars before transferring to Texas ahead of the 2024 season. Nearly half of his career yardage (987 yards) came from his time with the Longhorns. While at Texas, Golden also completed a pass attempt for a 15-yard gain.
Golden is one of 14 Longhorns who participated in the NFL Combine and is most likely just one of many former Texas players who will hear their names called during the Draft. The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled for the weekend of Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26.
