If Arch Manning doesn’t start in 2024, he will head to the transfer portal

The latest member of the Manning family to grab the attention of football fans across the country is once again Arch Manning.
During the Texas Longhorns’ spring football game on Saturday, Manning finally had the chance to show off his skills at quarterback and he made the most of it.
While other UT quarterbacks, like Quinn Ewers and Trey Owens, had perfectly acceptable days, Manning had one for the record books.
Manning started the White team’s scoring for the day with a 75-yard dime to DeAndre Moore Jr. for a beautifully thrown touchdown, and that was just the start for the young quarterback.
Throughout the game, Manning had a 76 percent completion rate on his pass attempts for 355 total yards, 3 touchdowns, and 14.2 yards per attempt.
While Manning previously looked shaky during his in-game appearances for the Horns, his performance in the spring game proved that he is ready for the starting job.
Ewers, who will be in his third year with Texas, has been all but promised the starting position by head coach Steve Sarkisian as of now.
However, Ewers had very limited touches on the ball during the spring ball scrimmage.
“I knew this entire week I was gonna have one to two drives,” Ewers said. “As a competitor, I definitely wanted to go out there and put a good drive together but didn't happen.”
One of Ewers’ minimal pass attempts ended up in the hands of the defense as junior edge Ethan Burke tipped it to senior defensive tackle Alfred Collins who then returned the ball for a 33-yard touchdown. Not a great start for the quarterback who is set to lead the Horns into the SEC.
Last season, Manning played in just two games for Texas. He went 2 for 3 in the air for 30 yards and had 3 rushing attempts for 7 yards.
"I wanted Arch to be able to just go play football,” Sarkisian said. “The biggest thing I saw from Arch was something that we really harped on with him about a week and a half ago about just dialing into playing the play and keeping your eyes up."
