After a report was released that Quinn Ewers was back to full health, the former Texas quarterback confirmed that he planned to participate in throwing drills at the 2025 NFL Combine, giving him one more chance to prove that he has what it takes to play at the next level.
Throughout the 2024-25 season, despite leading the Longhorns to a second consecutive College Football Playoff appearance, Ewers didn't look quite himself as he struggled to throw the ball downfield and made some questionable in-game decisions.
However, a report that Ewers had suffered a torn oblique and not just an oblique strain during the season explained some of the strength issues that fans, coaches, and analysts saw as the year unfolded.
Now, Ewers has a chance to show off the powerful arm he was once a five-star recruit and the No. 1 prospect in the nation for.
In fact, the decision to participate in throwing drills at the Combine gives Ewers the opportunity to take a step past the two highest-rated quarterbacks in the Draft class: Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
The two quarterbacks announced ahead of their day on the field that they would not be throwing at the Combine. So, with Ewers actually participating in the drills, he could prove that he is just as skilled as the top two QBs – and it's certainly an opportunity to show that he's more willing to put in the necessary work to prove his worth.
Ewers, alongside other quarterbacks, and fellow Texas teammates Jaydon Blue (RB), Isaiah Bond (WR), and Matthew Golden (WR) will take the field on Saturday, March 1, at noon CT. The Combine is broadcast on the NFL Network.
