A little over a year ago, the Miami Dolphins drafted former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers into the NFL. Then, one year later, the Longhorns watched beloved safety Michael Taaffe get drafted by the same franchise.
Immediately, fans of both teams started celebrating the reunion of the two Texas Longhorns, who had become well known as close friends both on and off the field.
Between TikTok videos and Instagram posts, it quickly became apparent that the pair spent more time together than just in the weight room and on the football field. Now, as Miami players report for training camp, Ewers and Taaffe have had a professional reunion.

"Run it back, [Quinn Ewers]," Taaffe said on his Instagram story, sharing a picture of himself and Ewers in the Dolphins' locker room.

Taaffe, who originally walked on for the Longhorns before becoming a scholarship athlete, played three seasons with Ewers on the 40 Acres (2022-24) before the former Texas quarterback headed to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Then, after one additional season at Texas, Taaffe followed in his best friend's footsteps, declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.
During Ewers' three years with the Horns, he amassed 9,128 passing yards for 68 touchdowns and 24 interceptions, working his way to becoming a seventh-round pick in the Draft. In his four seasons at Texas, Taaffe racked up 221 total tackles (119 solo), 14 pass deflections, seven interceptions, three sacks, and one forced fumble to prove himself worthy of a fifth-round draft pick.
Taaffe and Ewers aren't the only Longhorn Legends to grace the Dolphins' locker room these days, joined by offensive guard DJ Campbell, who was drafted just one round after Taaffe, and linebacker Trey Moore, who was drafted one round before Taaffe.
While we may not be able to call Miami the second coming of the Longhorns quite yet, there is an undeniable pipeline being built between the 40 Acres and the Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium.

The Dolphins will kick off their preseason schedule with a game against the Washington Commanders on Aug. 14, and Miami's regular-season schedule will begin on Sept. 13, with a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
As of now, there's no telling if Ewers or Taaffe will earn starting roles with the Dolphins, but with the college connection as motivation, it shouldn't be a surprise if Texas fans can easily recognize a slew of players in Miami's starting lineup.
