Quinn Ewers' preseason performance made Longhorn fans experience deja vu

Oh, Quinn. Oh, Quinn. Oh, Quinn.

In his NFL preseason debut, former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers reminded Longhorn fans exactly why they're excited to have a different man running the offense this year.

Ewers was vintage Ewers. He made questionable decisions, struggled to keep his footing, and failed to back up the impressive performances he has had at practice so far for the Miami Dolphins. To put it in layman's terms, he reminded everyone of exactly why he fell to the seventh round of the NFL Draft.

Quinn Ewers NFL preseason debut stats

  • 5 completions, 18 attempts (27.8 percent)
  • 91 passing yards
  • 2 sacks (-19 yards)
  • 2 fumbles lost
  • 48.1 quarterback rating

Ewers was exactly what the rest of the country believed he would be and exactly what Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian refused to admit: he's not all that great.

Many people turned to Longhorn Nation to accept an apology for fans blindly defending Ewers over the last few years. However, his performance just made the Texas fanbase feel a little less crazy than it had over the last few weeks.

With reports of Ewers absolutely excelling in Miami practices, Longhorns felt like they had been blindsided, especially after their former quarterback failed to secure an SEC title or National Championship during his tenure at Texas.

However, seeing Ewers in his usual form as the Dolphins struggled to tie the Chicago Bears made Texas fans feel right at home.

While it may have been fun to have a former Texas QB as a starter at the next level, it is far from Ewers' time to take the reins from Tua Tagovailoa, Miami's current starting quarterback. However, the former Longhorn might get another chance when the Dolphins kick off their second preseason game on Aug. 16, against the Detroit Lions.
