Sean Miller brought Texas basketball back to the Sweet 16 in just one year as the Longhorns' head coach.
Now, with a few beloved players reaching the end of their eligibility, like Tramon Mark, Jordan Pope, and Chendall Weaver, as well as the possibility of stars like Dailyn Swain heading to the NBA Draft, Miller has a bit of rebuilding to do.
Texas men's basketball projected roster 2026-27
- Point guard: N/A
- Shooting/combo guard: senior Simeon Wilcher, freshman Austin Goosby, freshman Bo Ogden, freshman Joe Sterling
- Small forward: senior Dailyn Swain (if he doesn't head to the NBA), senior Cam Heide, sophomore Anthon McDermott
- Power forward: junior Nic Codie, sophomore Declan Duru Jr., freshman John Clark
- Center: junior Matas Vokietaitis, freshman Lewis Obiorah, freshman Coleman Elkins
While senior Simeon Wilcher could play the role of point guard, he doesn't have quite the ball-handling skills or court vision necessary to lead a team to the high-caliber people expect of the Longhorns.
Returning stars like Nic Codie, Cam Heide, and Matas Vokietaitis will fill out the front court nicely. However, Miller will have to rely on true freshmen like Austin Goosby and Bo Ogden to shape his backcourt if he can't find elite talent from the transfer portal.
Luckily for Miller and the Horns, the portal is flush with talented point guards this season, and they could seemingly have their pick of the crop of rebuilding and transforming the Texas men's basketball program back into a team capable of a run to the Sweet 16.
The Longhorns finished the 2025-26 season with a 21-15 overall record, claiming upset wins over favored teams like NC State, Gonzaga, and more in the NCAA Tournament.
While the regular season and the SEC Tournament didn't go as planned, Miller made a massive impact on the program in just one year. He could do more of the same by bringing an elite transfer portal to Austin once again.
