In the latest win for the Texas Longhorns, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his recruiting staff landed a commitment from three-star defensive lineman Jason Johnson.

Johnson, a native of Texas, committed to the Horns over quite a few other in-state programs, including the SMU Mustangs and Houston Cougars.

Over the last few months, he took official visits to Texas, SMU, and Houston, as well as making out-of-state trips to the LSU Tigers and Cal Golden Bears. After spending a few days on the 40 Acres, wrapping up his OV schedule with his trip to Texas, he had clearly been impressed by what Sarkisian and the Horns had to offer.

Johnson is just the latest defensive line prospect to commit to Texas from the class of 2027, joining four-star recruits Kasi Currie and Tyler Alexander, as well as four-star edge rushers JaBarrius Garror, Cameron Hall, and Derwin Fields.

"Trust in God’s plan. LONGHORN NATION I’M HOME. HOOK EM," Johnson said when he committed, according to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett and Sam Spiegelman. "Texas is a great program filled with tradition and culture"

Sarkisian has never shied away from going after the top defensive linemen in the nation, touting stars like Colin Simmons, Anthony Hill Jr., and more over the last few seasons. This year, though, feels like an even bigger statement for Texas, racking up one elite prospect after another, building an undeniable monster in the Longhorns' defensive line room.

With Johnson's commitment, the Horns' recruiting class continued its climb up the national and conference rankings, breaking into the top three of the SEC standings. Now, with 21 commitments to Texas's name, the class ranks sixth in the country and is trending toward the top five.

While Johnson is the latest commitment for Sarkisian, he is far from the final addition expected for the Longhorns this summer.

Five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara is also projected to choose the Horns over a slew of other powerhouse programs, as is four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis.

Yes, Texas might have missed out on the top two defensive line prospects in the country (for now), with Jalen Brewster committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Marcus Fakatou committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Horns are outpacing nearly every single team in the nation, especially at the line of scrimmage.

On the other side of the ball, Sarkisian has received four commitments for the Texas offensive line: four-star offensive tackle Brian Swanson and three-star interior offensive linemen Keyon Hemphill-Woods, Lucas Rhoa, and Jackson Cook.
