Steve Sarkisian linking up with fellow Texas HC further cements him staying in Austin

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian denied any speculation that he wanted to leave for the NFL and him connecting with a fellow Longhorn leader only cemented that.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian isn't going anywhere... for now, at least... and only according to a statement released by his agents in response to a report that he was interested in saying goodbye to the Longhorns and hello to the NFL.

After The Athletic shared that one of Sarkisian's representatives had said the HC was open to taking a head coaching job at the next level, his agents blatantly denied the report, calling it "patently false and wildly inaccurate."

Then, as Sarkisian and his team were getting off the bus ahead of their game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, he made sure to connect with Texas women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer, who last coached in Starkville.

The embrace between the two head coaches, who are arguably the two most successful head coaches in the Horns' athletic department, further calmed the chaos that had kicked off Texas's Saturday morning.

Amid the Steve Sarkisian chaos, Longhorns must stay focused

While it's certainly reassuring to know that Sarkisian isn't leaving the program, the drama was still a massive distraction for the Longhorns ahead of a conference game that could make or break the season for a program looking to return to the College Football Playoffs for a third consecutive year.

With a 2-1 record in SEC play, the Horns couldn't afford to lose to an unranked Mississippi State team that had yet to defeat a conference opponent, especially after narrowly escaping the Kentucky Wildcats just a week before.

Despite the Longhorns being heavily favored in the matchup, experts weren't sold on Texas easily securing the win, with ESPN's Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee being among those who expected Mississippi State to walk away victorious.

No. 22 Texas and Mississippi State were scheduled to kick off at 3:15 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 25, on the SEC Network.
