Official visit season has officially arrived, and the Texas Longhorns have three consecutive weekends of the nation's top recruits coming to town to see all that the program has to offer.
This weekend, head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Horns are scheduled to host 11 prospects on their OVs, including four recruits who are already committed to Texas: Brock Williams, Cameron Hall, Noah Roberts, and Derwin Fields.
While Sark and his staff must focus on all 11 recruits in Austin, there are a handful of recruits that Texas should pay a little extra attention to, prioritizing these three prospects:
3 recruits Sark and Texas need to hone in on
Out of the 11 recruits taking their OVs to Austin, only one is committed to a program other than Texas: four-star linebacker Jhadyn Nelson, who is currently committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he is already close to the frame of a college linebacker, standing at the same height and just 25 pounds lighter than current Texas star LB Colin Simmons.
Over two seasons of varsity football, Nelson has already amassed 101 total tackles (42 solo), including 12.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He has forced four fumbles, recovering one of them, earned three pass deflections, and even brought down two interceptions for 16 yards.
Nelson is the No. 8 linebacker in the class of 2027 and is a Texas native, ranked as the No. 15 prospect out of the state. Flipping his commitment to the Longhorns would be huge for Sarkisian.
Kasi Currie is one of the most highly coveted defensive linemen in the country, with offers from powerhouse programs like the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, and, of course, the Horns.
Currently, the Buckeyes are favored to land Currie's commitment, but with two unofficial visits to Texas already under his belt, Sarkisian has a great chance to lure him in the direction of the Longhorns.
Currie has played varsity football since he was a high school freshman and has an impressive resume to his name.
Cornerback John Meredith is the highest-rated prospect visiting Texas this weekend and the only five-star prospect in the group.
The obvious allure of the five-star rating is a large reason Sarkisian and his staff should put a little extra weight into Meredith's recruitment, but the work he has produced throughout his high school career is proof that the rating is well deserved.
Another Texas native, Meredith is the No. 2 prospect in the state and the No. 2 recruit in the class of 2027, earning his place as the No. 1 cornerback in the recruiting cycle.
A two-sport athlete, Meredith has also competed in track and field throughout his high school career in both the 200-meter dash and triple jump. After his sophomore football season, he even played in the Under Armour All-America Game as an underclassman, earning one tackle and one interception.
Who all else is coming to Austin this weekend?
The entire slate of recruits coming to Austin for Weekend 1 of the Horns' busy official visit season is composed entirely of blue-chip prospects, with one five-star recruit, nine four-star recruits, and one three-star recruit.
