While it might technically be the offseason, the Texas Longhorns aren't actually taking much time off.
From football kicking off the first wave of summer practices to both the men's and women's basketball teams hitting the gym again, the Horns are as busy as ever on campus, and that includes a slew of new athletes joining the rosters.
Whether coming from high school or from the transfer portal, both the Texas men's and women's basketball teams added elite players to the lineup, and those new faces are quickly becoming familiar in the offseason.
"Back in the lab," Texas women's basketball shared on social media, including pictures of freshmen Addison Bjorn and Brihanna Crittendon.

Meanwhile, the men's team posted pictures from a team scrimmage that included beloved players like Matas Vokietaitis alongside transfer additions like former Saint Mary's guard Mikey Lewis and more, with the caption, "The burnt orange looks right on our new guys."

While women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer didn't utilize the transfer portal with the same ferocity as men's coach Sean Miller, the Lady Longhorns' freshman class is the best in the nation.
Freshman and transfer portal additions beef up Texas basketball
"So fired up about [Texas women's basketball]. Great first day of summer workouts. Love this group. Energy off the charts. 'Don’t chase confidence, chase preparation, and confidence will follow,'" Schaefer shared on X.
Earlier in the offseason, Schaefer commented on the fact that he wouldn't be surprised if many of the talented freshmen joining the Horns would become starters for Texas in the upcoming season.
"My new team deserves my undivided attention," Schaefer said about the current roster. "I'm so excited about this team."
The freshman class, which ranks No. 1 in the nation, includes Bjorn, a four-star small forward, and Crittendon, a four-star power forward, as well as four-star point guard Aaliah Spaight, four-star shooting guard Amalia Holguin, and four-star power forward Isi Etute.
Schaefer and the Longhorns signed zero (yes, 0) transfer prospects, despite suffering four losses to the portal: Jordan Lee, Justice Carlton, Aaliyah Crump, and Aaliyah Moore.
Meanwhile, Miller added the No. 4 transfer portal class in the country, headlined by Lewis, former Colorado point guard Isaiah Johnson, former Tennessee shooting guard Amari Evans, former TCU power forward David Punch, and former Auburn small forward Elyjah Freeman.
"We really tried to go high school and players going through the portal from one team to the next," Miller said earlier this offseason about building his roster.
Out of high school, Miller landed commitments from five-star small forward Austin Goosby, four-star shooting guard Bo Ogden, four-star combo guard Joe Sterling, 6-foot-10 center Coleman Elkins, and European prospect Mantas Laurencikas.
While both the men's and women's basketball seasons are months away, these updates from the teams and coaches are just another reason for Longhorn fans to look forward to what's to come at Texas.
The men are scheduled to tip off their season at the Rady Children's Invitational in San Diego, CA, over the last weekend of November. The women's team has yet to announce its first scrimmage or game of the 2026-27 season.
