Over four months ago, blue-chip safety Greedy James committed to his home-state team: the Texas Longhorns.

Since then, he hasn't exactly reassured the Horns and head coach Steve Sarkisian that he is 100 percent in on the program.

Most recently, James scheduled a trip to South Bend to visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and that trip is set to take place this weekend.

James has yet to lock down his recruiting, allowing other head coaches and programs to stay in contact with him and work to poach him from the Longhorns.

His trip to Notre Dame is out of the ordinary for the three-star safety, having only taken four previous visits, all of which were in the state of Texas, and he has only one official visit scheduled, which is with Texas.

Greedy James recruiting visit history

  • TCU Horned Frogs - June 1, 2024
  • SMU Mustangs - March 15, 2025
  • Texas Longhorns - June 1, 2025
  • Texas A&M Aggies - Nov. 15, 2025
  • Texas Longhorns - June 19, 2026 (OV)

Despite being just a three-star prospect, James is a top-100 recruit out of the state of Texas in the class of 2027 and has received offers from across the country, even including in-state teams he has yet to visit, like the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Baylor Bears.

While his trip to visit the Fighting Irish doesn't actually mean that James will flip his commitment from Texas to Notre Dame, it undoubtedly puts a pit in the stomach of Sarkisian and the Longhorns' recruiting staff.

James isn't the only prospect visiting South Bend this weekend, but he will certainly be the one that the Horns pay the most attention to.
