Per On3's Hayes Fawcett, four-star Lucas (TX) Lovejoy wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon has flipped his commitment from the Florida State Seminoles to Texas football on Oct. 10.

Texas football gets its third 2025 WR commit with Florida State flip Daylan McCutcheon

McCutcheon is the second former Florida State commit to flip to the Longhorns in the 2025 class, joining four-star Port Charlotte (FL) defensive lineman Myron Charles, who committed to Texas back in September.

He flipped a few months after originally committing to Florida State back in mid-July. McCutcheon joins five-stars Kaliq Lockett and Jaime Ffrench as the third wide receiver commit in the Longhorns 2025 class. Texas now has the top-ranked wide receiver recruiting class in the nation for the 2025 cycle in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

Texas didn't give up in this recruitment after McCutcheon committed to Florida State on July 13. The Longhorns kept in consistent communication with McCutcheon for the past few months since his commitment to Florida State during the summer last offseason.

Texas also hosted McCutcheon for multiple visits since the spring last offseason. He officially visited Texas during the summer and has taken multiple unofficial visits to Texas since the spring.

McCutcheon took an unofficial gameday visit to DKR to see Texas defeat Mississippi State for the SEC opener a couple of weeks ago in late September. He was impressed by the atmosphere and likes that Texas has quarterbacks that can get him the football in head coach Steve Sarkisian's offense in the SEC.

Two of the biggest factors that led to Sarkisian, wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns flipping McCutcheon's commitment from Florida State were his potential fit in this offense and the development at wideout for this program in recent years. He told On3's Steve Wiltfong that he likes the "play style" for Texas's offense under Sarkisian.

"What I liked the most is offensively seeing Coach Sarkisian, seeing how he’s able to use the wide receivers in his play style. Obviously Coach Jackson with him recruiting me for the longest with how our relationship built throughout the years and him coming from NFL and with that being said made me fall in love with Texas. Especially with them being close to home."

Getting McCutcheon in the boat in the 2025 class also moves the Longhorns one step closer to achieving a top-five-ranking in the nation for this cycle in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking.

Texas gets a versatile and talented receiver in McCutcheon

Regarding his toughness and versatility, McCutcheon is a really versatile and clean fit in Sarkisian's offense, either at the Z or H-wide receiver spot. He's got the quickness and footspeed to work quickly out of the slot and to create separation on the outside as more of a traditional possession receiver.

McCutcheon is a very technically polished wideout. He's already got a pretty developed route tree, and he will only get better as a route runner while working with a WR coach with an NFL resume in Jackson for the Longhorns.

Despite standing at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, McCutcheon plays much bigger than his size on paper would make you think. McCutcheon is a gifted vertical athlete, allowing him to high point and bring down those tough contested 50-50 balls in tighter window throws in the passing game or on the outside on true contested jump balls.

He also has strong and reliable hands, making McCutcheon a very consistent and effective target in clear passing situations on money downs on third and fourth down on offense.

As a blocker, McCutcheon is very willing and proficient to get physical against opposing defensive backs and linebackers downfield and out in space on the outside to block for the ball carrier. He resembles former Texas slot receiver Jordan Whittington in a sense that he's a very willing and consistent blocking presence for the receiving corps for the Longhorns.

Projection and fit at Texas

McCutcheon's ability to high-point the football and bring down those tough contested balls on the outside, along with his willingness as a blocking wideout makes him a great fit in Sarkisian's offense. He could play out of the slot or work out of the Z-wide receiver spot at Texas.

Since he is a pretty polished receiver prospect, McCutcheon should be ready to make an early impact on Texas's receiver corps by potentially his second year on campus. He'll be coming in with a loaded receiver recruiting class that features three prospects capable of making a push for early playing time on the two-deep for the Longhorns' offense.
