Even in the height of summer, the Texas Longhorns don't ever get a genuine offseason.
Between practice camps, international competitions, putting in work on the recruiting trail, and more, the Horns continuously refuse to take their foot off the gas.
"All gas, no brakes," as head football coach Steve Sarkisian likes to say.
That motto has carried through the offseason and right into the start of fall camp as the Texas football team returns to the 40 Acres to kick off its final month of not-in-season practices on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The Longhorns kick off their 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 2:30 p.m. CT, with a home stand against the Texas State Bobcats. Until then, it's pedal to the metal for Sarkisian and his squad.
Janae Jefferson, USA Softball dominate International Cup
There were three Longhorn Legends on the two USA Softball teams competing in the International Cup this summer. With three Longhorns came two medals: one gold and one bronze.
Janae Jefferson, who played for the Horns during head coach Mike White's first few years with the program, was named the Offensive MVP of the tournament, leading the U.S. Women's National Team to a first-place victory over Japan.
Meanwhile, former Texas Reese Atwood (fresh off her second consecutive Women's College World Series title and even more freshly off her Rookie of the Year campaign in the AUSL) rejoined current Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan on a roster to help lead the U.S. Elite team to a third-place win over Canada.

Now, as Kavan looks to earn a three-peat with the Longhorns next season, both Atwood and Jefferson will look to continue their professional careers by racking up even more wins, honors, and titles.

Sarkisian was hard at work on the recruiting trail to close out July with a bang and kick off August with a... boom?
After landing a commitment from Landen Williams-Callis over the weekend (which boosted Texas's recruiting class to No. 6 in the nation), Sarkisian continued to flex his recruiting prowess. Now, he has the Horns trending in the right direction for class of 2028 prospects like four-star running back Micah Rhodes, as well as scheduling critical visits for current Texas commits.
Both five-star interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara and five-star wide receiver Easton Royal announced they would be on campus for Texas's Week 2 matchup agains the Ohio State Buckeyes, with the possibility of Monshun Sales attending as well, despite being committed to the Indiana Hoosiers.

Beyond the current and future Texas football stars, some Longhorn Legends are set to take the field in the first game of the 2026 NFL preseason.
As the Arizona Cardinals and the Carolina Panthers suit up for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, kicking off the preseason schedule, former Longhorn running back Jonathon Brooks, tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, wideout Devin Duvernay, and offensive linemen Hayden Conner and Christian Jones will be vying to cement a place in the two teams' 53-man rosters.
Outside of that game, former Texas running back Bijan Robinson further cemented his historic legacy in the NFL, becoming the highest-paid running back in league history.
The Longhorns are doing everything, everywhere, all at once, and it is exactly why the Texas brand continues to dominate the national (and sometimes even international) headlines.
