Texas primed to poach a 4-star Oklahoma native from his home-state teams

After narrowing his list, it looks like a four-star linebacker is eyeing the Texas Longhorns alongside one of his home-state teams.

It always feels good when you can get one over on your rivals, especially when it's the Oklahoma Sooners. That's exactly what the Texas Longhorns are primed to do.

Earlier on Thursday, four-star linebacker and native Oklahoman Izzy Hammons announced his two finalists still under consideration. Those two teams? The Horns and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The Sooners haven't even offered Hammons, completely ignoring the top-20 linebacker out of their own state.

Instead, Hammons has narrowed it down to the Sooners' in-state rival and Oklahoma's biggest rival (in every sport) throughout history.

Izzy Hammons down to Texas and Oklahoma State

The young linebacker is the No. 17 prospect at his position in the class of 2027, and the No. 6 recruit out of the state of Oklahoma. Despite his high ranking, he has been highly underrated throughout his recruiting process.

Hammons received just nine Division I offers, including those from Oklahoma State and Texas, as well as the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Duke Blue Devils, and more.

A third in-state program, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, also extended him an offer, but received little attention from the four-star prospect.

Hammons also scheduled just two official visits for the year: to Texas and to Oklahoma State. He visited the Cowboys in April and is set to visit the Longhorns in two weeks as part of the Horns' three consecutive official visit weekends.

He will be one of a few dozen prospects coming to town over the next three weeks, including a handful of players who are already committed to the Horns.

Hammons' trip to Austin will give head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns the perfect opportunity to lure him to their program instead of his home-state team.

While Hammons' visit is still two weeks away, Sark and the Horns are set to host nearly a dozen prospects this weekend, including Texas commits Brocks Williams, Cameron Hall, Jhadyn Nelson, and Derwin Fields.
