The Texas Longhorns have done it. After some tough losses early on in the season to Ohio State and the Florida Gators that resulted in falling out of the AP Top 25 altogether, Texas has found itself not just back in the rankings, but is now in the field to make it back into the College Football Playoff.

Texas has come in ranked No. 10 this week, just barely making it into the field with the last two spots potentially going to other ranked teams, as one of the five highest-ranked champions will most likely take that No. 12 slot.

With Texas now not just in a great spot in the rankings, but in the field for the playoff, the Longhorns' matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs just became even more important.

Texas must win against Georgia to keep CFP hopes alive

Here we are again with the Texas vs. Georgia matchup is looking like Texas's biggest matchup of the season. The Bulldogs stayed at No. 5 this week in the CFP rankings while the Longhorns moved up, but Georgia can afford to lose a game while Texas can't.

Texas must travel to Athens this weekend for a night game between the hedges, one that won't be an easy one to walk away as the winners. The Bulldogs had the Longhorns' number last season, winning both the regular-season matchup and the matchup in the SEC Championship.

This matchup has yet again become so important for the Texas Longhorns, as another loss would count as their third, and while a three-loss team has a chance at getting in, Texas would struggle with that nagging loss to Florida. If the Gators had performed better this season, it could be looked at as a quality loss, but now even a bowl game seems how of reach for them.

The Longhorns will hope that the extra week of prep and the Arch Manning that showed up against Vanderbilt will help the Longhorns get the big win over the Bulldogs to help secure more of a spot in the College Football Playoff.
