Texas women’s basketball releases its 2025 SEC conference schedule

The women's basketball team released its 2025-26 SEC schedule on Tuesday. They have a tough stretch of road games that scares me, but let's review some of the key games.

With the Texas Longhorns football team already starting practice for their 2025 season, Texas Women's Basketball isn't too far behind. They're already preparing for an upcoming trip to Toronto for a preseason exhibition. With all that's going on right now, the team posted its SEC conference schedule on Twitter on Tuesday. There is one stretch of games where the Longhorns will need to be rested and focused, as taking on South Carolina and LSU back-to-back on the road is a challenging task for any team. Here are more key SEC conference dates for the Longhorns.

Texas Women's Basketball: Janurary 11th at LSU

Nothing like jumping into a pool with both feet right off the bat. The Longhorns will embark on a treacherous four-out-of-five road game stretch starting with the LSU Tigers and then heading to South Carolina. I don't even think Tennessee would want to have that on their schedule. That's like going back-to-back against two great powerhouse programs. However, the Longhorns are going to have to get over it and fight through it. Those kinds of stretches can tell a coach if their team is ready for the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament.

Texas Women's Basketball: Janurary 18th vs. Texas A&M

The Longhorns will have their lone home game during that five-game stretch mentioned above against the Aggies. It will be a great game of basketball because it's a rivalry matchup. Forget the records when it comes to rivalries; it becomes a grudge match. I'm sure the Aggies are going to want revenge after seeing the Longhorns celebrate with the trophy in their locker room last season. It's going to be a great game regardless of who wins.

Texas Women's Basketball: February 15th at Tennessee

I marked this game down on my calendar when I saw it posted. Tennessee is going to be one tough powerhouse team coached by Kim Caldwell. She did a lot of work on the recruiting trail during the offseason. She has a team that could dethrone the South Carolina Gamecocks if they wanted to. The fact that the Longhorns will have to face a hostile environment and play one of the conference's most improved teams worries me a lot, especially if the Longhorns want to secure the number one seed again.

Texas Women's Basketball: February 22nd vs. Mississippi St.

This game has always held sentimental value for Vic Schaefer since he was the head coach at Mississippi State. However, he won't have to worry about the waterworks since the game will be in Austin this season. The reason this will be a game to watch is that it's near the end of the season, and who knows how tired the Longhorns will be at this point. It's the second-to-last home game of the season, and the Longhorns need to win this to show how mentally sharp they are for the SEC Conference Tournament.
