The NBA Summer League has officially tipped off a half dozen former Texas Longhorns are taking the court for the 30 teams facing off in Las Vegas.
This past weekend, that included former Texas stars Tre Johnson and Dailyn Swain, who were both first-round picks in the last two drafts.
After the two Longhorn Legends took the court in the first games of this year's Summer League, it became readily apparent who had a season of NBA basketball already under his belt.
Tre Johnson leads Wizards to win, Daily Swain struggles in Bulls' loss
While Johnson didn't have a record-breaking or earth-shattering rookie season, he found his footing as last season progressed. That much showed as he racked up 26 points in the Wizards' 92-88 victory over the Utah Jazz.
Meanwhile, Swain was far from the caliber that the Longhorns grew so used to seeing him play at, earning just 7 points as the Bulls fell to the Memphis Grizzlies. He was undeniably outshone by fellow Chicago rookie and first-round pick Caleb Wilson, who earned a record-setting 35 points in the game.
However, Swain's slight falter in his NBA Summer League debut was by no means a sign that it's time to panic about his career at the next level.
During his rookie season, Johnson averaged just 12.2 points per game, alongside a minimal 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists. His stats were far from incredible, but his first Summer League appearance this year already has him on track to easily outpace those numbers in the coming season.
In the Bulls' first Summer League game, Swain already earned four rebounds and three assists, and still has a handful of appearances left before the off-season tournament ends. While his scoring stats weren't quite what anyone had hoped for, there is still a lot of time left before it's do-or-die for Swain.
Swain was taken by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft, just one year after Johnson was selected in the first round of the 2025 Draft by the Washington Wizards.
Swain, Johnson aren't only Texas stars in NBA Summer League
Johnson was joined in the 26-point performance club by fellow Longhorn Legend Arthur Kaluma, who is in his second year with the Los Angeles Lakers. The pair of former Texas stars are tied for the second-most points in the Vegas Summer League, only trailing Wilson.

On the other side of the court from Johnson was yet another former Texas player: Max Abmas, who is in his third year in the NBA. Abmas clocked in for nearly 14 minutes but struggled to produce any meaningful minutes, earning just five assists and one rebound while failing to score any points.
Tramon Mark didn't suit up in the Phoenix Suns' first Vegas Summer League matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, but former Texas forward Jayson Kent did put in nearly 28 minutes for Portland, earning nine points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block.
