In the end, turnovers and poor tackling cost Texas as Oklahoma State went on to win 38-13.

The Longhorn defense had no answer for Cowboys quarterback Clint Chelf. After the teams exchanged punts in the first quarter, Chelf took his team down the field 72 yards for a touchdown. Texas lost containment on the quarterback on a 3rd-and-10 play and Chelf strolled in from 18 yards out. Chelf accounted for all 72 yards on the drive, including 54 on the ground.
Texas answered with a field goal, but Longhorn fans could sense that field goals wouldn’t cut it on this day. Oklahoma State, on the other hand, had no trouble putting the ball in the end zone when it mattered most.
After a Texas punt from deep in the Longhorns’ own end of the field gave the Cowboys excellent field position, Chelf went to work again. He orchestrated a 42-yard drive culminated by his second touchdown run, this one from four yards out. Again, Chelf accounted for all of the yards in the drive.
Texas needed to answer, or risk getting blown out in the first half. And answer the Longhorns did. A combination of Joe Bergeron runs and Case McCoy passes moved Texas to the OSU 12. From there, Malcolm Brown took it in on third down to cut the lead to 14-10.
Oklahoma State answered quickly. Chelf moved the Cowboys 67 yards in just over two minutes. Completions of 24 yards to Charlie Moore and 29 yards to Jhajuan Seales set up OSU at the Texas 14. One play later, Chelf found Tracy Moore for a 12-yard touchdown pass to build the lead to 21-10 with 1:15 left in the half.

McCoy tried to lead Texas on a late scoring drive to cut the deficit to one score. Instead, disaster ensued as he threw a pick-six to Justin Gilbert. That play took the air out of the stadium as Oklahoma State led 28-10 at the half.
The Longhorns took the second half opening kickoff 84 yards to get to the Oklahoma State 10-yard line. McCoy could not connect with Jaxon Shipley on third down, and Texas had to settle for another Anthony Fera field goal.
A Cowboy field goal extended the lead to 31-13. McCoy then threw his second interception and OSU was set up at the Texas 21. Chelf needed just one play to find Charlie Moore for the score, and the lead was 38-13.

McCoy threw his third pick as the third quarter wound down and the exodus of Longhorn fans began. McCoy would play two more series before being replaced by Tyrone Swoopes.
Texas actually outgained the Cowboys 389-380. The Longhorns also had more first downs (25-21) and held the ball longer (31:57 to 28:03). In the end it was the turnovers that did Texas in. This will be something Swoopes will need to avoid today in Stillwater if the Longhorns want to escape with a win.
No conference championship is on the line this year. Instead, both teams are chasing an all-important sixth win in order to get extra practices for a bowl game.
What a difference a year makes.
