Texas Football: SWOT Analysis two months away from 2017 opener
Texas Football 2017 Threats
USC Rematch in Los Angeles
You can’t win a National Title if you lose to USC in the Coliseum.
Well, perhaps you could if that were the only loss of the season. But, it would be a very daunting task to lose to USC and run the table against the Big 12 conference.
Another threat related to USC is not playing well. What if the Longhorns fall flat and lose big, like the season opener against Notre Dame two years ago?
We can’t think that way, but the threat is real if this Longhorns team hasn’t grown up from the Charlie Strong Era.
Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma
Lincoln Riley already scored one victory over Texas by flipping prized recruit Ron Tatum.
Bob Stoops had lost out on Tatum in his own backyard. Then, one week after Stoops retired and Riley took over, Tatum changed his mind about Texas and flipped to the Sooners.
Riley is a threat as an equal to Tom Herman. Both in recruiting and on the football field.

This isn’t the SEC where top-tier teams can avoid good teams in the other division.
Everyone plays everyone in the Big 12 conference schedule:
- That means back-to-back road trips to Baylor and TCU.
- There is no bye week during the Big 12 schedule.
- There could be a 10th conference game in the Big 12 Title game.
This also includes road trips to Iowa State for the first Tom Herman conference game, plus road trips to Baylor, TCU, and West Virginia.
The Big 12 is tough and poses a threat to the Longhorns trying to prove they are ready to make a complete turnaround in the 2017 Texas Football season.
