3) Early Texas football DB transfer targets

I mentioned the name of the former Miami Hurricanes highly touted four-star recruit and 6-foot-1 and 195 pound talented sophomore cornerback Christian Williams as a potential Texas transfer target in the past. When Texas lost Watson II to the transfer portal, and ultimately saw him take his talents to join Georgia Tech, I thought Williams was a worthy replacement to stock up the cupboard of cornerback depth once again.

Williams is a talented cornerback that just hasn’t got much of a chance yet to make an impact with the Canes. He was not originally recruited by current Miami head coach (and former Texas defensive coordinator) Manny Diaz. That might be one of the reasons why his name is in the transfer portal ahead of next offseason.

During his two years playing for the Canes to date, Williams played in bits and pieces of five games. But he’s only played in one game this season for the Canes before entering the portal. In his college career to date, Williams registered five combined tackles (three solo and two assisted) and one pass breakup.

Hailing out of Daphne High School in Daphne, AL, Williams was one of the more highly touted cornerback recruits of the 2019 cycle. He ranked as the nation’s No. 160 2019 high school prospect, No. 20 cornerback, and No. 7 prospect out of Alabama (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked him as the nation’s No. 219 high school prospect, No. 20 cornerback, and No. 9 prospect out of Alabama.

It’s not clear yet if Williams will be immediately eligible to play next season. But he would be more of a long-term depth play at cornerback for the Longhorns if they landed his commitment.
