Since taking over the Texas Longhorns, head coach Steve Sarkisian has become well known for a few catchphrases, but none better than his motto of "all gas, no brakes."
A phrase that has been used by teams across the country and at every level of all sports has been heavily tied to Sark and the Horns. However, most recently, one new head coach has taken a page from Sarkisian's playbook.
Brian Hartline was named as the newest head coach of the South Florida Bulls after spending time as the Ohio State Buckeyes' offensive coordinator. Now, he's using Sarkisian's "all gas, no brakes" tagline to inspire his first season at USF.
"[It's] all gas, no brakes," Hartline said, according to On3's Pete Nakos. "There was some success here the last couple of years, but nowhere near where it should be."

Texas Longhorns' Steve Sarkisian becomes model for coaching
Of course, Sarkisian was hired as the Texas head coach after a slew of bad leaders held the role following the departure of National Championship-winning HC Mack Brown. While the Longhorns were nowhere near the level of bad football that USF has seen, it wasn't a good time on the 40 Acres.
Hartline is entering a slightly similar position, taking over the Bulls following the departure of Alex Golesh, who was hired as the Auburn Tigers' new head coach this offseason.
Before Golesh took over at USF, the Bulls were in a bad place, going through tumultuous years under head coaches like Willie Taggart, Jeff Scott, and none other than Charlie Strong, who led the Longhorns before taking over at South Florida.
Now, after Golesh led the Bulls to a 23–15 record over two seasons, it is Hartline's turn to keep the program upright and ensure even more success for the Group of Six team.
With the quasi-similar situations, it looks like Hartline has been studying Sarkisian's coaching ways, whether that be how he has led the Horns to two College Football Playoff appearances, or which mottos he has used along the way.
Ultimately, Hartline and Sarkisian don't have many ties to one another. In fact, one of their very few interactions came at the beginning of last season when the Horns fell to Ohio State, but Hartline's offense wasn't exactly noteworthy in that performance.
Steve Sarkisian's best quotes at Texas
As a Texas fan, "all gas, no brakes" isn't the only quote you've probably heard from your head coach over the last few years. So... just to take a trip down memory lane, here are a few more of Sarkisian's best catchphrases:
- "All Gas, No Brakes" - never taking his foot off the gas and always looking ahead
- "I feel like I'm crying from a yacht" - complaining about having "too many" good players
- "We've got to be careful of the rat poison of people telling us how good we are" - quoting his former boss Nick Saban
- "It gives me something to rip their a** about" - on nearly blowing a lead versus Vanderbilt
Simply put, Sarkisian doesn't shy away from making memorable statements when the mic is pointed in his direction, and clearly other coaches are taking notice.
