In the midst of spring practices and just weeks before the 2025 NFL Draft, Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian and Longhorn legend Colt McCoy sat down to talk about the team and some of its most promising young players.
One player in particular earned quite a bit of praise from his head coach and the legendary Texas quarterback: fellow QB Quinn Ewers.
Ewers declared for the NFL Draft after three years with Texas and following the Horns' loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Now, he looks to play at the next level and has recently met with a number of NFL franchises, including the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts.
"The quarterback in the NFL––win, lose or draw––has to show up the next day with the same work ethic, the same drive, film study, I think Quinn [Ewers] has that," Sarkisian said of his former QB. "I'm not so concerned how high he goes, I'm more concerned about him going to the right place."
Sarkisian went on to say that he truly believes Ewers has many tangibles that will translate even better to the professional level than they did at the collegiate level over the last three seasons.
Coach Sark thinks that Quinn Ewers has the mental makeup to succeed in the NFL and that him getting healthy will be huge when it comes to his success at the next level. Excited to see where Quinn goes in this year's draft! pic.twitter.com/XWBKU9TJnt

Obviously, McCoy has some personal knowledge and experience about what it takes to be a quarterback in the NFL. While the Longhorn legend might not have had the most successful professional career, he still spent a highly respectable 12 seasons in the league before retiring after the 2022 season.
"I think most people think it's Cam Ward first thing off the board, but then it's just a group," McCoy said of the quarterbacks in the Draft class. "It just takes somebody to fall in love with a guy. When you look at Quinn [Ewers]'s production, when you look at what he has done for Texas, when you look at how he has played and performed, especially when he's healthy... It does matter."
The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26. Currently, it has yet to be announced if Ewers will be in attendance.
