During a recent appearance on the On Texas Basketball podcast, new Texas head coach Sean Miller gave fans a clear look at what his version of Longhorn basketball will look like. When asked about his early impressions of the program, Miller’s answer was short and confident: “Do what we do.” It was a statement of identity — and a promise of how Texas will play moving forward.
The blueprint
Miller’s track record speaks volumes. Over 20 years, he’s compiled a 487–196 record (71%), with eight conference titles, four tournament championships, four Elite Eight appearances, and eight Sweet Sixteens. His 22–13 NCAA Tournament record (62%) proves he knows how to win when it matters most. Now, he brings that experience and structure to Austin, where a new staff and roster are ready to redefine Texas basketball under his leadership.
The Longhorn identity
Miller outlined three pillars that will define his vision for Texas basketball:
Movement concepts in the half-court — creating spacing and constant flow.
A tough, disciplined man-to-man defense — the backbone of his teams.
Tempo and pace — initiating offense early, but never forcing bad shots.
“We don’t want to shoot within the first six seconds,” Miller said. “We want to hunt the good shots.”
That line captures the essence of Miller’s approach — attack with purpose, not panic. It’s also a tournament mindset. The team that makes the fewest mistakes often has the edge, especially in tight games.
Chendall Weaver: The catalyst
If there’s one player who embodies that philosophy, it’s Weaver.
Weaver understands spacing, plays aggressively along the baseline, and has the rare ability to start fast breaks on his own. He’s tough on the boards and unselfish with the ball — always willing to make the extra pass for a better shot.
That balance of toughness, tempo, and teamwork is exactly what Sean Miller wants from his guards. Weaver’s instincts and energy could make him the spark that drives the Longhorns’ offense this season.
Excitement in the air
As the SEC era begins, Texas fans have plenty to be optimistic about. The Longhorns are turning the page to a new chapter — one built on pace, precision, and identity. With Miller’s leadership and players like Weaver setting the tone, Texas is positioned to become one of the SEC’s most disciplined and dynamic programs. Because as Miller said best: “Do what we do.”
