In October of 2023, five-star wide receiver prospect Ryan Wingo committed to play for the Texas Longhorns.
Since then, he has amassed 1,306 receiving yards for nine touchdowns, alongside 142 rushing yards over the last two seasons.
Despite his impressive stat sheet, Wingo was stuck playing second chair to a few of the other elite receivers who have rotated through Texas's locker room during his freshman season, including Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond.
Last season, he emerged as the top receiver for the Horns, earning a team-leading 834 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.
However, with five-star transfer wideout Cam Coleman joining the roster, it looks like Bond could be stuck as WR2 once again. Regardless of his levels of success, Wingo has remained true to Texas, and that included when he recently stood by his decision from nearly three years ago.
Ryan Wingo still celebrates picking Texas all those years ago
"Best decision I eva made," Wingo wrote on X (formerly Twitter), reposting the initial news of his commitment to Texas.
Over the years, Wingo has had zero complaints, behaving and playing as a true professional, and that has earned him a lot of respect from both fans and people in the sport alike.
This season, only time and actual in-game performances will show whether Wingo or Coleman earned the spot as WR1, and that will do a lot to bolster their place on NFL Draft boards.

Beyond Coleman, head coach Steve Sarkisian brought in a handful of talented receivers in the Longhorns' class of 2026.
Four-star wide receiver Kohen Brown, four-star WR Chris Stewart, and three-star tight end Charlie Jilek will all join Texas's depth chart this fall, competing for snaps and reps downfield.
During the 2025 season, Wingo suffered a wrist injury, but he didn't miss a single game, appearing in all 13 of the Horns' matchups, including recording a season-high 184 yards against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Wingo's pre-existing relationship and connection with Texas quarterback Arch Manning will only continue to grow during the 2026 season, and fans should be beyond excited to see their team in action this fall.
