The Texas Longhorns have had to deal with one rumor after another about the possible departure of their head coach, Steve Sarkisian, who took over the program just five years ago in 2021.

Last season, rumors were flying in every direction that he would leave the Horns for a job in the NFL, despite his doing what he could to shut those down as they continued to crop up.

Even now, nearly a year since those rumors cropped up, he has repeatedly been asked about where they came from or if they were true. To put it lightly, Sark is tired of having to answer whether or not he's happy where he is.

Most recently, he simply wanted to express his joy at being the head coach at the University of Texas, especially for as long as he has been able to do it.

"This is the longest I've been at a job in my career. 6 years," Sarkisian said. "I couldn't be more excited and grateful for that."

Steve Sarkisian said what Texas fans needed to hear

Sarkisian has dozens of coaching jobs throughout his lengthy career in the world of college football, including being the head coach of the Washington Huskies and the USC Trojans.

However, he was only at those programs for a few years each, and he has already stretched his time with the Horns to over half a decade.

"I mean this when I say this, I hope I retire at the University of Texas," Sarkisian said about his plans for the future.

Boom.

That's exactly what Texas fans have been waiting to hear about their head coach's plans: that he doesn't have any other than to stay with the Longhorns and turn them into the powerhouse program that they are meant to be.

Since taking over in Austin, Sarkisian has led Texas to a 48-20 overall record and two appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Horns have earned two bowl-game wins under Sarkisian's leadership and won the 2023 Big 12 Conference Championship.
