Over the past weekend, six former Texas Longhorns were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, with catcher Carson Tinney leading the pack.
While Tinney was taken the highest, going to the Minnesota Twins in the second round, one of the most notable draft picks was former outfielder Aiden Robbins, who was taken 92nd overall by the New York Mets.

Despite being a handful of weeks removed from actually joining the Mets organization on the diamond, many are already considering Robbins to be one of the biggest steals of this year's MLB Draft.
"Really surprised to see him fall this far," Inside Texas's Evan Vieth wrote on X. "The Mets just got a steal in Texas OF Aiden Robbins."
NY Mets get steal of a draft pick in OF Aiden Robbins
"Steal of the draft... Aiden Robbins goes 92nd overall to the NY Mets," KVUE's Corey Mose wrote on social media.
During his one season with the Horns, after transferring to Texas from Seton Hall, Robbins quickly became one of the leaders of the team both metaphorically and on the stat sheet.
As the Longhorns marched their way back to the College World Series, Robbins racked up 79 hits for 64 RBIs, including team-leading 24 home runs. On the other side of the ball, he was nearly flawless in the outfield, committing just five errors while earning 85 putouts and a 94.5 fielding percentage.
Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle knew what he was doing when he recruited Robbins to the 40 Acres out of the transfer portal, and he immediately made the outfielder a starter. Robbins appeared in and started in 60 of the Longhorns' 61 games this season.
Now, it looks like the Mets and team president David Stearns know what they're getting out of Robbins in the MLB Draft.

Tinney, who went 43rd overall, and right-handed pitcher Ruger Riojas, who went in Round 3 to the Philadelphia Phillies, were the only other Longhorns to get drafted on the first day. However, over the next few days, three more Texas legends heard their names called.
Pitcher Thomas Burns joined Tinney in the Twins' draft class, going 227th overall to Minnesota. Then, just a few picks later, Luke Harrison went 234th overall to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Last, but certainly not least, pitcher Cody Howard was selected in Round 13 by the Washington Nationals, capping off yet another dominant MLB Draft class for the Horns.
Throughout the record-setting history of the Texas baseball program, a whopping 378 former Longhorns have been drafted into Major League Baseball, with at least one Longhorn hearing their name called in every MLB Draft since its conception in 1965.
The Horns boast 43 first-round picks in program history, with the most recent first-rounder being pitcher Ty Madden going 32nd overall to the Detroit Tigers in the 2021 MLB Draft.
