Just like that, Texas women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer has gotten the ball rolling on the Longhorns' class of 2027.
Five-star center Jayla Forbes, the No. 13 prospect in the recruiting class, just committed to the Texas Longhorns. Forbes is the first commit for Schaefer in the 2027 cycle.

Of course, the Texas men's basketball team has been on a recruiting tear of its own with head coach Sean Miller landing five-star recruits Austin Goosby and Marcus Spears Jr., as well as scheduling a visit from Beckham Black, the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2027. Now, it looks like it's the women's basketball team's turn.
In SportsCenter's Next 100 Class of 2027, Forbes ranked 13th, a massive nod to her potential at the next level, despite recruiting sites like 247Sports and On3 placing her lower on the totem pole.
During her junior season, Forbes averaged 10.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 0.6 assists, and 0.4 steals per game. She has racked up experience for Team USA's U18 squad, winning the gold medal at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup while averaging 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Forbes was quite literally a massive get for Schaefer and the Horns, jump-starting a dominant recruiting class for Texas, something that has become common on the 40 Acres.
Just this year, Schaefer landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, topping the South Carolina Gamecocks, Duke Blue Devils, and more powerhouse programs. Now, he is on track to repeat his success, bringing even more talent to the Texas program.
Vic Schaefer's recruiting prowess continues at Texas
Joining the Horns this season are five blue-chip recruits that Schaefer landed over the past year or so, including five-star small forward Addison Bjorn, five-star power forward Bri Crittendon, five-star point guard Aaliah Spaight, and five-star power forward Isi Etute, as well as four-star shooting guard Amalia Holguin.

That class blew past that of its rivals, including Schaefer out-recruiting South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley over the last year.
Additionally, Texas earned a commitment from former Oklahoma Sooners starter Zya Vann out of the transfer portal. Not to mention the fact that the Longhorns retained star forward Madison Booker as well as fan favorite Sarah Graves.
In other words, even with the departures of starters like Jordan Lee and Justice Carlton, as well as Rori Harmon heading to the WNBA, the Longhorns are set up to succeed for the next season.

Last year, Schaefer led Texas to its second consecutive trip to the Final Four after securing their first-ever SEC Tournament title with a win over the Gamecocks, but the Horns were bested by the eventual National Champion UCLA Bruins.
