Yesterday, the Texas Longhorns played a nearly flawless game of softball, holding the Ole Miss Rebels scoreless and earning six runs to advance to the semifinals of the SEC Softball Tournament.

Right after the Horns' victory, none other than their rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, were taking the field to face the Georgia Bulldogs in the quarterfinals. As the No. 1 seed and one of the most dominant softball programs in the country, OU was unsurprisingly expected to win.

Well, the Sooners fell short of expectations, despite tacking on four runs in the first inning and eventually going up 5-0 on the Bulldogs.

Georgia stormed back ahead of Oklahoma and secured a 10-5 victory to advance to the semifinals, where the Dawgs will face the Longhorns for a spot in the SEC Championship game.

How to watch Texas softball vs. Georgia in SEC Tournament semifinal

  • Date & Time: Friday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Location: John Cropp Stadium, Lexington, KY
  • TV/Streaming: ESPN, fuboTV

When Texas faced Georgia in the regular season, the Horns went 2-1 against the Dawgs, winning the first and third games in the series.

It was one of the many conference series the Longhorns won, and one of the only series they lost was to the Sooners, so the semifinal matchup could have been a chance at revenge for Texas. Instead, it's a chance at revenge for Georgia.

That gives the Bulldogs a little extra motivation, but the Horns aren't exactly lacking for reasons to want to win.

To begin with, Texas is the defending National Champion, defeating the Texas Tech Red Raiders in last year's World Series. Before that, however, they missed out on the SEC Championship game, losing to the Texas A&M Aggies in the semifinals.

The Longhorns want that tournament title, and they want to earn as high a seed as possible for the subsequent postseason in hopes of defending their National Championship.
