Marcus Spears was a household name in the early 2000s, first for the LSU Tigers and then for the Dallas Cowboys. Since then, he has become even more well-known as one of the constant personalities on ESPN.
Despite his ties to the Tigers, his daughter, Cari Spears, decided to stay closer to their Dallas-area home and committed to the Texas Longhorns for her collegiate volleyball career.
Now, Spears' son, Marcus Spears Jr. (who is incredibly nicknamed Big Swagu Jr. after his father as well), is in the middle of his recruitment process, and it looks like the Horns already have an edge over other programs.
Texas should go all in on Marcus Spears Jr.
Spears Jr., who grew up in Dallas just like his sister, has been undeniably dominant throughout his high school career and has been listed as the No. 1 player in the class of 2027, unequivocally the No. 1 prospect out of the great state of Texas.
His status as one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the upcoming class was only further cemented by Spears' performance at the Chipotle Nationals.

With two dozen offers from teams across the country, including blue-blood programs like North Carolina and Kentucky, Spears could have his pick of the crop for where to continue his athletic journey.

However, since early on in his recruitment process, the Longhorns have been given the edge, especially with head coach Sean Miller at the helm.
Fresh off a run to the Sweet 16, in Miller's first season as Texas's head coach, it truly looks like the Horns are back on the map and climbing toward the top of the totem pole. It doesn't hurt that the Longhorns just brought in a top-15 recruiting class, including top-20 prospect Austin Goosby.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that his older sister is already calling Austin and the 40 Acres home, bringing ESPN's presence (including their dad's) to Texas on an even more regular basis.
While Spears Jr. may still be a full year away from locking down his commitment, things are undeniably trending in the right direction for the Horns.
