The Texas Longhorns just continued their recruiting roll into July. After picking up 11 commitments in the month of June, the Horns and head coach Steve Sarkisian picked up yet another blue-chip recruit to kick off the next month.

Four-star cornerback Brandon Sherrard committed to the Horns, picking burnt orange and white over the LSU Tigers and the Oklahoma Sooners.

"I'll be taking the next two to three years to the University of Texas," Sherrard said when he committed, and his surrounding loved ones erupted in applause.

As a Texas native who grew up just three hours from the Longhorns' home in Austin, it wasn't a massive surprise when Sherrard committed to Texas. Not to mention the fact that expert predictions had poured in for the Horns to land him just before his commitment date.

However, he was still a massive pickup for Sarkisian and his staff, and joined an elite group of prospects already committed to Texas from the class of 2027.

Brandon Sherrard joins John Meredith III, more elite DBs at Texas

"Just based off the relationship that I had with the coaches and the players that surrounded me," Sherrard said about why he committed to Texas. "That's just the fit that I thought I could get better at."

Sherrard is far from the first defensive back to commit to the Longhorns this offseason. He just became part of a recruiting class that is shoring up Texas as one of the best defensive secondaries in the country.

Whether it is recent stars like Malik Muhammad and Michael Taaffe, or new commits like Sherrard, five-star cornerback John Meredith III, and four-star safety Junior Tu'upo, the Horns could easily argue that they are, and have been, the DBU.

Sherrard was the 22nd recruit to commit to Texas out of the class of 2027, keeping the Horns' group of prospects at No. 7 in the nation, leapfrogging the Ohio State Buckeyes, who currently lead the Big Ten recruiting rankings.

When it comes to the SEC standings, the Horns still have yet to take the next step, idling at No. 3 in the conference even with Sherrard's commitment. Ahead of the Longhorns? Well, unfortunately, none other than the Texas A&M Aggies and the Sooners.

However, it is far from the end of the world, and it definitely is not the end of prospects committing to Texas, with the Horns leading the charge for at least a few more blue-chip recruits.

Sarkisian has done an incredible job in the class of 2027, and there is still a lot of time left in the recruiting cycle. Not to mention the fact that the Horns are fresh off of landing a top-10 transfer portal class that included the likes of star wide receiver Cam Coleman and monstrous running back Hollywood Smothers.

Between the incoming freshman next year, the expected returners, and likely another elite group from the portal, Sarkisian is setting up Texas to be in the National Championship conversation for years to come, and that's exactly where the Longhorns should be.
