Final push from QB Aggie commit may have Landen Williams-Callis seeing maroon over burnt orange

Over the last month and a half, a recruiting battle has emerged between the Texas Longhorns and none other than their in-state rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies, in hopes of landing blue-chip running back Landen Williams-Callis.

While other programs have entered and exited the conversation, it has been a Lone Star Showdown for the running back's attention, and recently, the Aggies got an extra push in their efforts.

With Williams-Callis' decision date just a few days away, set for Aug. 1, four-star quarterback and Texas A&M commit Jayce Johnson made sure to get in his thoughts on where Williams-Callis should commit.

"Landen, if you're reading this write-up, go ahead and make that move," Johnson said in a story by the Texas A&M 247Sports site, GigEm247.

Clearly, the blue-chip quarterback wouldn't mind having a blue-chip running back alongside him on the Aggies' depth chart.

So far, every single expert prediction logged for where Williams-Callis will end up has been in the Longhorns' favor, with On3's Steve Wiltfong, Sam Spiegelman, and more projecting Texas to come out on top of Texas A&M.

However, even with current Texas commits also vying for Williams-Callis's attention, the Aggies are a hurdle that refuses to be tamped down.

A native of Richmond, TX, most reports have had the Longhorns, the Aggies, and the SMU Mustangs as the consistent presences in Williams-Callis's recruiting journey. However, the Missouri Tigers have recently emerged as genuine contenders, with 247Sports labeling Mizzou and Texas as the top two teams.

Currently, Texas holds a commitment from four-star running back Noah Roberts, who is ranked as the No. 19 RB in the class of 2027. While Williams-Callis is also a four-star prospect, he is the No. 3 running back in the recruiting cycle.

Of course, the Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian have also received commitments from blue-chip offensive prospects like wide receiver Easton Royal, interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara, and many more.

However, even with a plethora of five- and four-star recruits already committed to Texas, it is impossible to deny that the Horns are heavily recruiting Williams-Callis to join their ranks.

Simply put, it is looking more and more likely that nobody will know where Williams-Callis is set to commit to when his decision day rolls around on Saturday, other than Williams-Callis himself. So, no matter who adds their voice to the conversation, the choice ultimately comes down to where the running back wants to play.
