Over the last seven months or so, five-star wide receiver Easton Royal hasn't done much to assure the Texas Longhorns, or their fans, that he's sticking with the commitment he made to them in November of last year.

Instead, he has taken official visits to a handful of other programs, has praised other coaches and teams, and has led just about everyone to believe that his recruitment is as open as possible, despite his commitment to Texas.

However, as of right now, that initial commitment still stands, and Texas fans are going to be even more grateful that is true when they see Royal's latest highlight reel-worthy play in a scrimmage.

While at The Opening Finals, an event hosted by Nike Football in Oregon, Royal was seen juking out and blowing past a defender to run downfield for a touchdown reception.

In other words, it was exactly what everyone would want to see out of their future player, no matter how tentative they might feel about his commitment.

The shiftiness and speed that Royal possesses are just two of the attributes that made him the No. 6 overall prospect and the No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2027.

Easton Royal's athleticism has everyone wanting more

Known for his all-around athleticism, Royal is touted for being able to combine "smooth movement patterns with quick-twitch athleticism," according to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks. Brooks also noted that Royal is more willing to get down and dirty, tossing out impressive blocks on the minimal plays where he isn't the quarterback's target.

Over his sophomore and junior seasons of varsity football, he amassed a jaw-dropping 3,244 all-purpose yards and 43 touchdowns, numbers that many athletes don't see in their entire collegiate careers.

Not to mention the fact that, beyond being an elite pass catcher, he is also a renowned track athlete, clocking a 10.17-second finish in the 100-meter dash and a 20.82-second finish in the 200-meter dash during his junior season.

As of right now, Royal is the second-highest rated player in Texas's class of 2027, only trailing five-star cornerback John Meredith III, who is the No. 2 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle. The two teams pressing the hardest for Royal to flip his commitment are the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators.

The video of Royal at The Opening Finals is just the latest example of why the Longhorns are clinging to the blue-chip wide receiver with everything they have, despite the fact that the pair of other SEC powerhouses are refusing to back down.
