Six days ago, while still dominating the class of 2027 recruiting cycle, Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns kicked off their secured commitments from the class of 2028.

Four-star prospect and the No. 6 quarterback Neimann Lawerence committed to Texas, choosing the Horns over the Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes, and more than two dozen other programs that extended him an offer.

Since his commitment, Lawrence has only garnered more attention and praise at the national level, making his decision to spend his future with the Longhorns that much sweeter.

During Rivals' Summer Signing Day, recruiting expert Chad Simmons couldn't contain his excitement about the 2028 quarterback.

"I just think maturity, big arm, can make any throw. He's a natural leader, loves to work, he competes and trains with guys at the NFL level, collegiate level. He's around top talent every day," Simmons said. "Right now, the plan is two more years of high school football. He'll be ready to work, ready to lead. [Texas] is getting a winner."

Of course, Lawrence is just the latest blue-chip quarterback to commit to Texas, following in the footsteps of Arch Manning, KJ Lacey, and Dia Bell, who actually played at the same high school as Lawrence.

"Super mature for his age. He has said he is not going to reclassify. Lawrence plays at American Heritage, where Dia Bell came from, one of the top programs in the South Florida area," Simmons said.

This wasn't the only good news that the Horns got out of the Summer Signing Day, starting the show by receiving a commitment from four-star cornerback Brandon Sherrard, the 22nd Texas commit from the class of 2027.

So far, Lawrence is the only prospect from the next recruiting cycle to commit to Texas, but what a way to kick off your next round of recruiting.

With quarterbacks like Lacey and Bell likely taking over the starting quarterback role over the next two years, Lawrence can take his time to continue to develop at the high school level. Then, when he does officially join the Longhorns in 2028, he could likely take another season to mature and study under Bell, with Lacey possibly leaving after his redshirt junior season.

Simply put, Sarkisian is preparing the Texas backfield to dominate for years to come, and Lawrence is just the latest example of the Longhorns being able to land top-shelf quarterbacks from across the country.
