Monshun Sales is the No. 2 wide receiver in the class of 2027. As a native of Indiana, his recruiting process has been consumed largely by the defending National Champion Indiana Hoosiers.
Beyond the champs, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Alabama Crimson Tide have played a big part and continue to be two teams in the conversation to land Sales' commitment, which could come any day.

However, as Sales continues to hint that he could make his decision sooner rather than later, none other than Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns have earned their way into the hunt.
Whether it be On3 and Rivals including the Horns' logo on nearly every Sales graphic that the recruiting sites post to social media, or recruiting analysts like Justin Wells hinting at Texas creeping closer, it looks like Sarkisian stands a chance to land the five-star wideout that even his biggest fans didn't believe was possible.

Sales is one of the very few five-star prospects from the class of 2027 yet to commit to a team, with interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara committing to Texas over the weekend and Xavier Sabb opting to play for the Oregon Ducks.
With Camara's commitment, the Longhorns' recruiting class flew back into the top five of the national rankings. If Sarkisian could pull off the shock of landing Sales, Texas could be staring down a top-three recruiting class once again.
Monshun Sales could fill hole if Easton Royal flips
Of course, Sarkisian has already landed a five-star wideout from the class in Easton Royal, who is ranked as the No. 1 receiver in the cycle and committed to the Horns early on in his recruitment process.
However, since Royal committed to Texas in November of last year, the entire conversation around his recruitment has been the possibility of him flipping to another program, mainly the LSU Tigers or Florida Gators.
So, if Royal did end up flipping his commitment away from the Longhorns when all was said and done, landing Sales could be the perfect replacement for Texas's recruiting class. While Royal is one spot higher in the rankings, Sales might actually have the upper hand over the No. 1 wideout.
Royal stands at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, which is a relatively good size for a collegiate wide receiver. However, Sales stands at 6-foot-5, towering half a foot over the current Texas commit.

Ultimately, Royal is the one committed to the Longhorns, and the Hoosiers still lead the charge for Sales' commitment. However, it is looking more and more like Texas and Sarkisian shouldn't abandon hope that the No. 2 WR could join them on the 40 Acres.
Currently, Royal and the rest of the Texas commits from the class of 2027 rank fifth in the country, with Camara's commitment propelling the Horns up a spot in the rankings. In the SEC, the group is ranked second, only trailing the Texas A&M Aggies.
While Texas might not be able to catch up to their in-state rivals on the recruiting trail this year, a commitment from a star like Sales would undeniably take them one step closer.
