At the end of this week, the world will know where five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales is taking his talents. The blue-chip prospect set his commitment date as July 17, and now it's a waiting game for the teams vying for his attention.

While dozens of programs tried to earn Sales' commitment over the last year or so, two teams have stood out among the rest as time has run out in his recruitment: the Indiana Hoosiers and the Texas Longhorns.

The Hoosiers are his home-state team and are fresh off winning the National Championship, but it shouldn't be considered a done deal that he will stay in Indiana.

In fact, when you look at the bigger picture, it actually becomes painfully obvious that Sales shouldn't choose the Hoosiers, and should instead commit to the Horns.

2 huge reasons Monshun Sales should pick Horns over Hoosiers

Over the last six years, the Horns have had six wide receivers selected in the NFL Draft, with four of those wideouts going in the third round or earlier. Most notably, since head coach Steve Sarkisian took over, Texas saw both Xavier Worthy and Matthew Golden taken in the first round of their drafts.

Texas WRs taken in the NFL Draft since 2020

  • Matthew Golden - Round 1, Pick 23, 2025 NFL Draft
  • Xavier Worthy - Round 1, Pick 28, 2024 NFL Draft
  • Adonai Mitchell - Round 2, Pick 52, 2024 NFL Draft
  • Jordan Whittington - Round 6, Pick 213, 2024 NFL Draft
  • Devin Duvernay - Round 3, Pick 92, 2020 NFL Draft
  • Collin Johnson - Round 5, Pick 165, 2020 NFL Draft

Conversely, the Hoosiers have only had seven wide receivers drafted since the turn of the century, with just two wideouts selected since Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti took over the program.

So, when looking at the historic success levels of wide receivers coming out of each program, the Longhorns are already a length step ahead of the Hoosiers.

Secondly, Sarkisian has filled the Texas locker room with one blue-chip quarterback after another. Currently, Arch Manning is the starting quarterback, but he has KJ Lacey, a four-star QB from the class of 2025, and Dia Bell, the No. 4 QB in the class of 2026, backing him.

Current Texas Longhorns quarterback room

  • Arch Manning - five-star recruit, No. 1 overall prospect in class of 2023
  • KJ Lacey - four-star recruit, No. 18 quarterback in class of 2025
  • Dia Bell - five-star recruit, No. 4 quarterback in class of 2026
  • MJ Morris, three-star transfer portal recruit
  • Luke Dunham, unrated quarterback in class of 2025

Additionally, Sarkisian has already landed a commitment from Neimann Lawrence, the No. 6 quarterback in the class of 2028, as well as three-star quarterback Ty Knutson from the class of 2027, continuing the trend of blue-chip QBs coming to the 40 Acres.

On the other side of the coin, Cignetti has turned Indiana into a program almost entirely reliant on the transfer portal for starting quarterbacks. Yes, it worked out for the Hoosiers last season with Fernando Mendoza joining IU out of the portal and leading them to the National Championship.

However, luck will run out for the Hoosiers when it comes to transfer quarterbacks being of the national title caliber.

In other words, if Sales brings his talents to Texas, he is almost guaranteed to have a blue-chip quarterback throwing the ball to him over the foreseeable future, no matter how long he spends in college.
